A snow room in Dubai costs AED 380,000 to 750,000 turnkey, takes fourteen to twenty weeks, and holds real powder snow at -2 to -8 °C in a city where the plant room outside the cell is at 45 °C. It is the most talked-about room in any villa or hotel spa we build, and the one whose engineering is least visible: an insulated cold cell, a refrigeration plant sized for the Gulf, a snow generator and a drainage system that handles melt. What a snow room is for
Heat needs cold to answer it. A cold plunge answers it fast and hard: two minutes at 6 °C. A snow room answers it slowly and gently: five to ten minutes at -5 °C, walking barefoot in powder snow, rubbing snow on the arms and shoulders, sitting on an ice bench. For guests who will not submerge, for children, for older family members and for anyone who wants the cooling without the shock, it is the better room. It is also the room that makes a villa spa in Emirates Hills or a hotel thermal suite on Palm Jumeirah memorable in a way a plunge basin cannot. How it is built
- The cold cell. An insulated box built inside the room: 100 to 150 mm polyurethane panels on every face including the floor, a vapour-tight skin, and an insulated glass door with a heated frame so it does not freeze shut. The cell is the same construction as a commercial walk-in freezer, finished inside in stone, ice-effect resin or backlit panels.
- Refrigeration. An evaporator inside the cell and a condensing unit outside, sized for a 45 °C ambient, placed in shade with a clear airflow path, on its own three-phase circuit. This is where imported snow rooms fail: a European condensing unit in an unventilated Dubai plant cupboard cannot reject heat and the cell warms to freezer-door temperature.
- Snow generator. A ceiling-mounted nozzle system that atomises filtered water into the cold air, producing powder that settles on the floor and benches. A controller runs snow cycles overnight and a defrost cycle weekly.
- Drainage and melt. A heated floor drain and an insulated melt tray so the defrost cycle does not flood the corridor.
- Benches and lighting. Stone or resin benches with a thin snow layer, ice-blue and white LED behind the walls, and a starlight ceiling if the client wants it.

The bands include the design set and 3D visualisation, the cold cell, refrigeration and snow plant, drainage, lighting, the door, the DEWA or ADDC submission and commissioning with a two-year workmanship warranty.
Where it goes in the villa
A snow room belongs on the cold side of the spa corridor, opposite or beside the custom sauna and next to the cold plunge if there is one. It needs a floor drain, a route for the refrigeration lines to the outside, a place for the condensing unit in shade, and a three-phase circuit. In Dubai Hills, Al Barari and Emirates Hills basements the condensing unit usually goes in the pool plant room or a ventilated enclosure at the side of the house; in Palm Jumeirah villas the terrace plant deck. The cell can be built into an existing room without touching the structure, because it is a box within a box.
Power, approvals and running cost
Refrigeration of 5 to 9 kW on three-phase, plus the snow generator and lighting on their own circuits: this is a DEWA load-change submission with a single-line diagram, prepared by our consultant, described on the DEWA approval page. In Abu Dhabi the submission goes to ADDC. Running cost in summer for a villa room is AED 900 to 1,600 a month, most of it the refrigeration holding the cell against heat leaking in through the door and the panels. Insulation thickness and a shaded condenser are what keep the figure there; a snow room built as a lightly insulated cold cabin with a condenser in the sun costs twice as much to run and never reaches temperature in August.
Snow rooms in hotels and clubs
In a hotel thermal suite the snow room is the amenity guests photograph. We build them at 12 m² and above with two doors, an ice fountain lobby and a refrigeration plant on standby so the room is never closed for a defrost during opening hours. Fourteen to twenty weeks
Four weeks of design, refrigeration engineering and approvals. Eight to twelve weeks for the cell panels, plant and snow system. Two to four weeks on site for the cell, drainage, plant, door, finishes and commissioning, which includes running the room down to temperature and producing the first snow with you in it. Two years on workmanship, manufacturer warranty on refrigeration and the snow generator, and a service contract with a pre-summer refrigerant and condenser check under the maintenance plan.
