Gym sauna and cold plunge recovery zones for UAE gyms and clubs

A commercial sauna, chilled plunges and, where space allows, a steam room, sized for members who arrive in waves after classes and matches, with drainage, hygiene and chillers designed for 34 °C tap water.

From AED 250,000Lead time 10–16 weeksWorkmanship warranty 2 years

A gym recovery zone in the UAE, a commercial sauna with two chilled plunges, costs indicatively AED 250,000 to 600,000 installed and takes ten to sixteen weeks. What makes it work is sizing for the rush after a class or a match rather than for the average hour, chillers selected for 34 °C tap water and a hot plant space, and drainage and hygiene details that survive hundreds of wet feet a day. We build these zones for gyms, padel clubs, CrossFit boxes and sports centres, and the largest recent example is an Olympic training facility in Lusail, Qatar, fitted with 20 saunas and 20 cold plunges.

What a recovery zone includes

  • A commercial sauna of eight to fifteen seats, with two benches, a continuous-rated heater or two heaters so one failure lowers the temperature rather than closing the room, and a glass front so staff can see inside.
  • Chilled plunges, usually two so members do not queue, in insulated basins or freestanding tubs, each with its own chiller, filtration and sanitiser.
  • A steam room where the floor plan allows, with a generator that descales itself and an extract that dries the room between peaks.
  • Showers and a rest area between hot and cold, because members who skip the shower are the main reason plunge water goes cloudy.
  • Plant and controls: a ventilated plant room for chiller condensers and the steam generator, and schedules that bring the rooms up to temperature before opening and set them back overnight.

For hotels and clinics with a hammam, a snow room or a relaxation lounge, the brief is closer to a thermal suite; that work is on our commercial spa page.

Reference: 20 saunas and 20 cold plunges in Qatar

For an Olympic training facility in Lusail, Qatar, we delivered 20 saunas and 20 cold plunges: rooms that athletes use in sequence, many times a day, with no tolerance for a plunge that drifts above its set point in summer. In Dubai we fitted out an office-tower spa in DIFC from shell and core, with saunas, steam rooms and cold plunges on a 58 kW connected load. Both projects came out of our factory in Istanbul, where cabins are dry-assembled and checked before shipping, and were installed and commissioned by our own crew. Behind them are nearly forty years of manufacturing and 1,450 completed projects in more than 35 countries.

Throughput: size for the peak hour

A villa sauna serves a family for an evening. A gym sauna fills in a wave ten minutes after the 7 pm class ends, and the door opens every few seconds. The planning arithmetic is simple and usually ignored:

  • Seats needed at once = members using heat in the peak hour × minutes each stays ÷ 60.
  • Plunges needed = members plunging in the peak hour × minutes in the water, including getting in and out ÷ 60, then round up and add one so there is no queue.

These are planning figures, not promises; your class timetable and membership mix decide the final schedule, and we size from them at concept stage.

Chillers for 34 °C tap water and a busy plunge

Every member who steps into a plunge after the sauna brings heat into the water. At peak, a gym plunge absorbs body heat continuously while the chiller also fights warm refill water from the mains, which reaches 32 to 35 °C in August, and a plant space that sits at 40 to 45 °C. A chiller sized from a European datasheet cannot keep up. We select commercial chillers of 2 to 3 HP per plunge for this duty, insulate every face of the basin, and put condensers in a ventilated plant room or a shaded enclosure with real airflow. Set points are usually 8 to 10 °C for general membership, colder only where coaches ask for it. The reasoning, with numbers, is in our cold plunge chiller guide.

Drainage and hygiene

  • Floors with falls to drains roughly every three metres, anti-slip tiles rated for barefoot wet areas, and no step between the shower and the plunge surround where water can pool.
  • Plunge water on continuous filtration with a turnover designed for the peak load, UV or ozone sanitation with a dosing controller, and a skimmer. Staff keep a daily water log; we supply the template and train them at handover.
  • Showers before the plunge, enforced by layout: the only route from the sauna door to the water passes the shower.
  • Benches that lift out or hinge up for cleaning, fixed with stainless screws, and cleaning products compatible with thermo-treated timber.
  • Local rules: public-facing pools and plunges may fall under municipality health requirements. We design filtration and sanitation so your consultant can demonstrate compliance, and we recommend checking the current requirements with the municipality early.

Gym steam room installation

A steam room in a gym runs longer and harder than any villa room. We fit commercial generators with automatic drain and descaling cycles for UAE water, tank the room with a bonded membrane and flood-test it for 48 hours before tiling, slope the ceiling so it never drips on members, and fit a heavy-duty door with a closer. An extract fan runs after peaks to dry the room so grout and silicone stay clean. The full construction standard is on our steam room page.

Padel club recovery zones in Dubai

Padel clubs have a particular rhythm: pairs finishing matches on the hour, in the evening, often outdoors. The recovery zone works best as a shaded terrace or pavilion next to the courts, with a sauna under a deep roof, two plunges set into a deck, an outdoor shower and a place to sit. It takes the same engineering as our garden sauna pavilions: a ventilated roof cavity, UV-stable cladding and condensers kept out of the sun. Indoor clubs usually give the zone a corner beside the changing rooms, where drains and plumbing already exist.

Approvals

The heater, generator and chiller circuits are a load change submitted to DEWA in Dubai, ADDC in Abu Dhabi or SEWA in Sharjah, with a single-line diagram and a load calculation. Gyms inside malls, towers or free zones also need the landlord’s or zone authority’s fit-out approval, and plant rooms may involve Civil Defence. Your fit-out contractor or consultant usually holds the permit; we provide the drawings, equipment certificates and submissions. The electrical sequence is the same one we follow for villa saunas, at a larger scale.

Ten to sixteen weeks

Two to three weeks for concept, sizing and submissions. Five to eight weeks for manufacturing, when the sauna is built and dry-assembled in our factory and the chillers and generators are prepared. Two to four weeks on site for drainage, plant, cabins, basins and commissioning, including staff training on the controls and the water log. The 24-month warranty starts at handover, and a service contract with pre-summer chiller checks keeps the zone open through August; service plans are priced with the installation. Coaches who want a written heat-and-cold routine for members will find one in our contrast therapy protocol.

FAQ

Gym recovery zone: questions clients ask before signing

How much does a gym sauna and ice bath zone cost in the UAE?

Indicatively AED 250,000 to 600,000 for a commercial sauna with two chilled plunges, installed and commissioned. Adding a steam room or more plunges moves the figure up; a full thermal suite with hammam and lounge is priced on the commercial spa page. The final number follows a site survey and an itemised quotation.

How big should the sauna be for our membership?

Size it for the peak hour, not the daily total. Estimate how many members use heat after your busiest class, multiply by the minutes each stays and divide by sixty; that gives the seats you need at once. Most clubs land between eight and fifteen seats, with an upper bench deep enough to lie on.

How often is the plunge water changed in a gym?

With continuous filtration, UV or ozone sanitation, a skimmer and a shower-before-use rule, the water is tested daily and changed on a schedule set by the load, typically far more often than in a villa. We design the filtration turnover for your peak and give your staff a written water log to keep.

Can we add a recovery zone to an existing gym or padel club?

Usually, if there is a floor drain or a route to one, a three-phase supply with spare capacity, and space outside or in a plant room for the chillers' condensers. Padel clubs often use a shaded terrace next to the courts. We check all three at the survey.

Do you install ice baths for gyms in Dubai as standalone tubs?

Yes, for clubs that want to start small: insulated freestanding plunges with their own chiller and sanitiser, placed near the showers. They are quicker to install than built-in basins but hold fewer users per hour; the cold plunge page compares formats.
